Hi Everyone! Happy 2004! Well, it’s been a while since my last newsletter but I have been very busy with music nonetheless. Welcome to those new list members and thanks to the faithful for your continued interest, support and most of all, for listening! In this edition of Anomalous News; : Anomalous Disturbances live at The Ambient Ping : Upcoming Releases : Backroads Music Mail Order Distribution : 2003 Year End Lists : Reviews of HovR :ANOMALOUS DISTURBANCES LIVE AT THE AMBIENT PING: March 2nd - 9:30pm Club Nia at C’est What 19 Church St. (at Front St.) Toronto I am off to Toronto again to perform at The Ambient Ping. This will be my first live show since late 2002. I’ll be performing two sets of ambient soundscapes via looping guitar improvisations, intermixed with recombinant ephemera, in search of happy accidents. Hope to see some of you Torontonians there. More info about The Ambient Ping can be found at; http://www.theambientping.com :UPCOMING RELEASES: -- “Archive One” -- I am in the final stages of completing a new CD to be titled “Archive One”. Tentative release date is mid April. This release will feature music recorded from September to December of 2003 and a few archival recordings also - “Creep” from the Spirit Molecule sessions (Dec. 2001) and one of my earliest loop pieces called “Swamp Gas” (Feb. 1987). Rounding it out will be Haven Siguenza’s unique reworking / remix of “Blue Honey” (Mar.2003). -- “Ping Ambience Volume 2” Compilation -- To be released in April. Features ambient artists that have performed at the Ambient Ping in Toronto. My contribution is a track called “The Invisible Landscape” from the upcoming CD, “Archive One” . More info to follow soon! -- “Music for Seances” limited edition series -- I will be contributing a track for this cool Art/CD series brought to you by the mysterious ambient purveyors known as Austere.( check out their music at http://www.austere.org ) The release date has not been determined yet but I will update as details become available. From the Music For Seances link on Austere’s webpage; http://www.austere.org/oracle/seances.shtml Music for Séances (a nod to Brian Eno) is a series of ambient music releases by different artists which are meant to evoke feelings of mystery, discovery, and ceremony. Each package is decorated to look like a vintage Ouija-style Talking Board. The main edition of 50 copies are distributed through Art*O*Mat vending machines. These are vintage cigarette machines that have been converted, restored, and decorated in various art styles or themes. A person buys tokens and can then purchase a piece of art (or in this case, a music box.) There are currently a couple dozen machines active, mostly on the east coast, and more are being installed every month. Please visit Art*O*Mat Locations to see examples of these lovely machines and a list of places where they are installed (such as The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.) -- Collaborative Recordings -- In November I traveled to Toronto to record new music with Matthew Poulakakis aka Automatic Fats In December I traveled to Los Angeles to record with my brothers Chris and Wayne. Plans are to complete and release the results from both collaborations later this year. A solo piece, “Xmess in LA (Level Orange)” from the LA sessions, will be on the “Archive One” CD. :BACKROADS MUSIC MAIL ORDER DISTRIBUTION: Backroads Music is now listing both The Spirit Molecule and HovR CDs in their Heartlands mail order catalogue.
