This is the first proper Lex e-mail update this year. It's only mid-February and things are already pretty crazy - what with Danger Mouse's Grey Album, the Non-Prophets 'Fuck Clear Channel Tour' and the spread of big releases we have for Spring 2004. PRINCE PO "BETTER THINGS" MP3 Prince Po and DM recorded this promo MP3 for your listening pleasure : http://www.lexrecords.com/better_things.htm More on Prince Po below... DJ SIGNIFY "WINTER'S GOING" 12" IN STORES NOW New York DJ and producer Signify has released his first 12" through Lex. It's a sampler for the forthcoming album, Sleep No More, and includes one of the album's tracks that features Buck65 plus two instrumental tracks. It's had amazing reviews in Urb Magazine and Time Out (London) - "mournful muted horns and rolling bass. It's David Lynch does hip hop. Fantastic and far from conventional..." You can listen to it and buy it now at : * http://www.warprecords.com/?mart=LEX023 * http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?merchID=12751 * http://www.rapandsoulmailorder.com/ * or digitally here http://www.warprecords.com/bleep/?bleep=LEX023 More on DJ Signify below... LEX SHOWS : NEW YORK - ALERT! ALERT! The Solexism night in New York featuring MF Doom, Prince Po and Danger Mouse & Jemini has been postponed due to problems with the horoscope readings for the event. The show will hopefully be rescheduled to a new date within a week or two of the advertised date. Check www.lexrecords.com for more updates. A second Solexism show in NY with DJ Signify performing Sleep No More live with Sage Francis and Buck65 and special guests is likely to be announced very soon. Let's hope the stars are more kindly for that show. LEX SHOWS : EUROPE There will be a glut of Lex live shows in Europe in April and May. The Lex Tour - featuring Non-Prophets, Prince Po and Danger Mouse - will be visiting the Dedbeat Festival (full listing at the bottom of this e-mail), the Triptych Festival and The Scala in London. Tes will also be performing at some of these shows. Prince Paul (yes!) will be performing at the London and Triptych dates too. You can buy tickets for the Solexism London show featuring Prince Po, Prince Paul, Danger Mouse and Non-Prophets here : http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=uk&query=detail&event=89665 or from www.wayahead.com, T. 0870 120 1149 NME Ticket Line T. 0870 1 663 663, Rough Trade, Covent Gd, WC2H T. 0207 240 0105 Deal Real, 6A Noel St. Soho, W1V T. 0207 734 8689 DJ SIGNIFY "SLEEP NO MORE" DJ Signify's debut album is still slated for a release this Spring. An early review in The Wire seems approving. We know it's as dope as it is dark. I noticed it's on presale at www.amazon.com. Expect amazing artwork. Look out for a show in New York in late March. NON-PROPHETS : FUCK CLEAR CHANNEL TOUR Sage Francis, Joe Beats, a beat combo, Mac Lethal and Grand Buffet are in the middle of a giant fuck-off US tour. They are currently in Texas. For a full list of shows visit www.non-prophets.com. Sage is selling his latest "Sick Of..." compilation CD featuring the ínternet-hip-hop-fan-wet-dream Doomage - an MF Doom remix of Non-Prophets "Damage" featuring all new vocals from Sage Francis and verses from Slug and fellow Rhymesayer Brother Ali. STOP IT DANGER MOUSE... WE'VE HEARD ENOUGH Yeah! Just stop getting press will you? After MTV, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, CNN, The Independent, The Guardian, The NME Jockey Slut and now Wired, The Daily Telegraph, Metro and Reuters - what's left? A mention in the Queen's speech?? * http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=4365711 * http://www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0,1412,62276-2,00.html?tw=wn_story_page_n ext1 * http://allhiphop.com/features/index.asp?ID=741 And if by some strange twist of fate you are a member of The Daily Telegraph On-Line you can visit http://www.telegraph.co.uk/portal/main.jhtml?&_DARGS=%2Fcore%2FlowerHeaderBa rFrag.jhtml to read their coverage of the story... * It's worth noting that the bizarre http://www.greytuesday.org/ site has absolutely nothing to do with Lex, Danger Mouse, his management or as far as we know anyone that we have ever met or talked to. Lex and Danger Mouse are at least reasonably fond of copyright law because it helps us sell our beautiful records. To date EMI have been very reasonable, considering... HYMIE'S ON BOKSON http://www.bokson.net/electro/chronique/1102.html TES Tes' new EP is still under construction. The record features remixes by Stereolab, The Black Dice and French lexoleoid producer Tacteel and features Prince Po on a new version of New New York plus brand new songs. RADIO W-A-X Lexoleoid Waxfactor has a brand new radio show. You can tune in in London or get it on the web. Here's the PR : "The show is entitled "Rhythmic Incursions" and seeks to present, for want of a better term, "what happened after hip-hop" so-to-speak. In vague, slick-sounding journo language, I guess it'd be called "post-hip-hop" - essentially those artists and labels who have explored hip-hop beyond the realms of the stereotypical boom-bap. My co-presenter, Mr Trick, is responsible for the incredibly popular Turntable Radio show (also on Resonance FM) which currently reaches the ears of around 60,000 listeners a week. Wishing to build upon the success of Turntable Radio and utilise the already established platform in order to take things further than solely scratch-based music, the Rhythmic Incursions show was conceived. Additionally, the show will occupy the same time slot as Turntable Radio - with the 2 shows sharing the slot in rotation (one week Turntable Radio, one week Rhythmic Incursions) - which, we believe, will ensure the show reaches a similar number of listens. A website is currently being designed to promote the show further, but there is more information available on both the Turntable Radio website (the biggest show on Resonance FM) ( http://www.turntableradio.com/ ) and the Resonance 104.4FM website itself ( http://www.resonancefm.com/ )" ME http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/8809.html Thanks Daniel!
