Yeah, amen brother (pun intended). It's not that a drum break or sound is "played out." That to me is just lazy/ not-creative thinking. It's all about taking the amen break or whatever and processing it or tweaking it in some new way that makes it fresh. Like I once sampled "Get Out Of My Life Woman" (which I didn't know at the time has been sampled A LOT in hip hop) and ran it through buckets of delay inna dub reggae stylee. See what I mean?
