I'm a little late on this conversation...

demands of the corporate machine to gain acceptance and monetary success. but now that instrumental electronic music is becoming more mainstream (not that the music has changed much - rather that there are more mainstream outlets for electronic artists - car commercials, for instance) doesn't it make sense that electronic musicians are experimenting with vocals - pushing the boundaries of idm by introducing elements of pop music, rap & soul? It seems to me that people are making some very interesting music nowadays, and many of the better 'idm' labels like chocolate industries, city centre offices, morr music & even warp (lex imprint) also put out a good deal of rap & what could be considered 'indie rock'.

If you look at some of the better rap/idm crossovers, you'll find that a good amount of the material on any given album is purely instrumental. take pole's collaboration with fat jon, for instance - or funkstorung's 'appetite for disctruction' - even crossover projects like Urban Renewal Program still contain a lot of instrumental music. ===== _________________ _________________ nao/music: http://www.mp3.com/naoko nao/blog: http://speakerslayer.livejournal.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
