actually, to the mainstream, the vocal-free and faceless nature of
techno in the early 90's did make it seem strange and forbidding.

i can kind of see that. there is a very "mad scientist" side to a lot of
IDM, and yet i see hipsters filling rooms to listen to this music.

i'm not sure what the original person meant, but i was thinking the
other way around, like the use of pitch-shifted rap vocals in kid606
and t. raumschmiere tracks. but that's been a hardcore techno
thing for years now.
i think there's no reaason to worry about any of this. it's kind of like
in comic books and sci-fi, thinking going back in time will alter
history. instead it just creates an alternate reality where things
happen differently. idm with vocals over here, instrumental over
there. pure glitches'n'beats in this bin, melodic stuff in that one.
laptops only or guitars in the mix. more choices for all.
