I listened to a bit on site, now waiting for my FLAC encoding to finish on
the 24-bit wav files. The Dublin show, at least, sounds radically
different from the earlier released live sets. I can definitely understand
people not liking Autechre but they really are doing something no one else
does, and if you get into it, it's musically compelling.
I like to think that if I could work at it more or less full time, I could
progress to the level of technical command of the tools, and make it come
out as artistically compelling. If you listen to nothing else, listen at
autechre.ws to the Dublin show.
The thing about Autechre is that they really have focused almost
exclusively on ultra-long-form compositions. The Dublin show is 82 minutes
long (!) and to the extent there is repetition - beats, sounds, tones, it's
continually changing in interesting ways.
