although this is OT, maybe someone else is interested in my 2 cents,
so here I go:
here is how internet streaming basically works:
source computer (home) -----> relay service ====> many listeners
the 'source computer' sends the music (stream) to the relay station
which then sends the stream to all connected listeners. that way you
need to send the stream only once (bandwidth depending on the bitrate
of the stream of course) and the real work is done by the relay.
once you have your source computer set up (running icecast or
the disgusting winamp with its unholy shoutcast) you need to find a
relay station you can afford.
Green Witch (
http://www.greenwitch.com) offered relay services for free
(not too many listeners supported and somethimes a bit laggy). they seems to
have
been incorporated into xiph.org (the pals that invented OGG Vorbis).
unfortunately I can't find any indications how to reach the green witch
sub-project
on the xiph site, so it may have been dropped it or its currently offline.
as GW is now 'xiph', they probably will not allow mp3 streaming and favour
OGG Vorbis,
which isn't so bad because Vorbis has much better audio quality than mp3,
especially
with low bitrates.
hopefully there are other free relays.

knowledge:
