For anyone looking for some good political IDM the
first track off of The Kosmic Commando's "laptop
dancing" is some pretty good edited speech, I can't
tell if it's King George the first or second. Kinda
like "bushwhacked" with beats. I have been getting
into that new school IDM hip hop stuff, like boom bip
and Prefuse 73, there is some political/spiritual
commentary I like in some of that. (BTW does anyone
know what the story is with "nonalbum"? Is this a
pre-release of the new album? I like the track with
the garbled Nicaragua stuff in it.) In response to
whoever posted that political rallies are an outmoded
for of protest, I totally agree, even though I will be
out protesting on Feb. 15th. I am all about this idea
of social change, that subversive media/art/music is
the most effective form of protest. And in my eyes a
lot of what happenned in the 60's and the fuel for the
vietnam protest was due to the popularization of a
certain compound synthesised by Albert Hoffmann, and
all of the music, art, and ideas that sprouted from
that. I think that electronic music, this IDM scene,
has tremendous potential as a political tool. I get
sick of people thinking that assasinating Bush will
solve the problems we are faced with. If anything that
would make things worse, it would be an excuse to
become even more of a facist police state, any form of
protest could potentially be labeled terrorism. Not to
mention the fact that would be facing violence with
another form of violence. But art is still legal,
music is still legal... cheers to Warp and Ninja Tune
for thier political bent, too bad they are not
american, but I guess the are essentially in the same
boat as us, the british. I like a lot of what xlr8r
stands for, what I have read in thier editorials. Well
I hope this post has enough MUSIC content to be
acceptable material....
