...I agree with you to a certain point, however thats acctually one of the
more obvious reasons why I enjoy IDM. I can enjoy well produced conceptual
art just as much, but from my point of view it seems EXTREAMLY hard to do
without coming off as pretentious or even ridiculous. IDM, to me, seems to
rely more on an exploration of sound, technique, and expression rather than
social-political ideals, and current event commentary.
However, with rare exceptions I usually dislike a song if I can be over 80%
certain of the message the author was trying to express..."if he has to come
right out and say it, then he's missing the point of music in general"...so
my tatse may be a bit sour in the area of art with 'meaning'.
