Well, of course they don't sound exactly the same.
But for someone who is looking for that same vein of
fast breakbeat type jungle, they're pretty close to
each other. I think the venetian snares odd time
signatures are one of the most interesting and cool
aspects of his tracks. Half the time, it doesn't even
register on a conscious level that he's writing in an
odd time signature. For example, vokesheads on ultra
higgins is like 7/8 but the whole track flows
perfectly. And it's very hard to make a track in a
weird time signature like that and STILL have it
groove so you can bob your head to it. I'm sure
anyone on this list could point out all of the nuances
in the sound between aphex twin vs autechre vs
squarepusher, but for someone who is just getting
familar with the genre(s), I think venetian snares
fits the bill quite well for what he is looking for.
