If you read the RES nmagazine with the Cunningham interview. He states his disappointment with Flex. He apparently was going for something more abstract and it came off too literal. I'd agree (My girlfriend hated it, haha). The content seems to me to be irrelevant as he was really just looking for a vehicle for some brillant technical ideas. To me, the whole notion of "the body" and "human form" is pretty classic in the art world (and a bit cliche beyond blank subject matter for sketches). I'd say it was more of a study than anything else.
