That was the ones! i been thinking about this thread for awhile, and i was
thinking about first electronic 12" which was LFO - LFO, but yeah, the
year leading up to that, some new friends me and my buddy were hanging out
with had taken us away in their rangerover up into all these weird and
wonderful little scottish back roads, introduced us to bongs and mushrooms
[not together, tho we never ruled that out] and listening to ambient
music. I recently been listening to Chill Out again, its so amazing, and
brings back all those memories of originally hearing it, so vividly.

Actually in saying that, i wouldn't actually consider KLF or the ORb as
IDM. In fact i had never heard the term IDM until about 97 or so, and
thought it was pretty dumb term, but i guess when something is
appropriated for so long it takes on its own meaning.
I'll stick with my original LFO answer, as it seems more appropriate.
