DJ HAZARD...is the shit.. don't listen to mainstream rush/optical crap... then you get jaded. -Joel "Malcolm J. McAtee" <malcolm@manlikemalcolm.net> wrote: I agree that Hard and Dark are totally acceptable -- but drum n'bass does seem to have become pretty one dimensional. I blame Alex Reece actually. Although he made some great tunes it was introduction of that boom -- chat, boom -- chat beat that seemed to rob drum n' bass of all of its funk (later perfected and darkened by Ed rush). It was the hyper kinetc BREAKS that gave it that human element. I always thought the hip-hop & reggae mixed w/ the serious techno futurism was what made the music so interesting, but those "black music" (jungle) roots seemed to disapper and as a dj you were forced to go the "heavy metal" (RAM records) route to keep the floor "runnin"..... I was at rave about 4 years ago and the djs were still hammering out the dark stuff at 5 in the morning -- where was the jazzy and atmospheric stuff?? It seems that most dnb djs are either one or the other and rarely mix the two (three, four, five??) styles together. That being said I think the "Desert Rose" ep by suv and the Brazillian Stuff by "Dj Markie" are both pretty nice, not enough to get me buying dnb in the quantities I used to...........but then whoever thought anyone would refer to dnb as nice http://www.big12inch.com House Music - Vinyl Records,CDs,Hard to Find Records --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org DJ Joel Fever - Dancehall Reggae/Hardstep Jungle "First DJ To Endorse Own Hot Sauce" [Skhoolyard Sound System - MA,Neverending Echo - MA] 06.12.02 @ the cafe about 300ish Tremont st. 06.29.02 Tru Dat (HIND CLAW) Asylum + dusting off old tech recs for tag 07.12.02 Tech Assimilation (HIND CLAW) Fuse MIXES FOUND @ http://www.neverending-echo.com/audio.htm http://americandnb.com --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!?
