by the sounds of it.. you guys just started listening to drum and bass 3-4 years ago... here is a fact. drum and bass is a deriviative of HARDCORE... there fore ... "punishing" as you put it is infact OK and acceptable.. and do you know what?? there is actually atmospheric producers.. jazz producers... and intelligent producers of jungle/dnb... that you fail to mention... and one last thing.. just because the sounds you hear are outdated .. (because of trickling releases from record companies) doesn't mean the sound is dead.. it actually changes every 6 months.
