damn, this is getting good... time for me to take another trip down to
ChinaTown...
how about:
-Gamera 3 (hands down the best kaiju [japanese monster movie] of all time,
highest recommendation, some of the most breathtaking and believable CGI
work). if you ever liked Godzilla, get this.
-Warriors of Mountain Zu (old fantasy-fu done right. in many ways this is
the StarWars of Japan. very imaginative adventure filled with glorious
analog effects and visual trickeries. kitsch, but quality kitsch).
-Chinese Ghost Story (really nice anime that came out a couple years ago.
slightly confusing story, but animation/CGI marriage is glorious (leaning
more towards CGI than usual). old fable.
and while on (off-topic) Metropolis and Spriggan DVDs were just released
state-side, both of which are amazing new anime. Spriggan is just
fight-scenes of the gods. Metropolis is lush anime/CGI future pinochio
story, and kicks AI's ass (not that hard really).
and yeah, i need one of those friggin region-free dvds so that i can finally
watch the PagenPoetry DVD my roomate bought me a couple months ago... i
haven't been able to sleep.
