Agree! Last night, for example, as Freiband was playing his second piece, someone who was there to try to understand, appreciate, learn more, hear more of idmesque music commented that what was this supposed to mean....if music was about feeling something, what was there to feel in this particular work for example? I stood there for a bit longer, listening...I was actually really enjoying this track a lot, and feeling something...so I said to them that, yes, indeed I did feel something from his music, and this particular thing...it brought back strong memories from the time I was an Intensive Care Nurse and had to suction patients breathing tubes all night, and this was remineicent of that sound, mixed with the sound of the ventilators, etc... Speaking of last night, it was good...nice size crowd at Tritone - a very artist friendley enviornment (they had the Sun Ra Arkestra there recently :) The event was on a Monday casue that was the only day all these guys could be there. Erin Anderson (she also goes by Fidget and is one half of Flowchart) opened up Dj'g...perfect...she set the right mood for the night and had a nice long set to really explore and create a picture...lots of mad, deep insane carnival sounds with a healthy dose of My Bloody Valentine. She also played between the live sets. Howard Stelzer/Jason Talbot Duo were up first - crazy fun lovin guys with lots of silly tricks up thier sleeves...playing with sounds created with the 1200 and attching various devices and so forth...scratching, etc...1 guy in the audience got inspired to do a modern jazz acrobatic intrepretive dance/ birthday tribute to his friend who he was with celebrating. Freiband was fantastic. Serious, with his cardigan & cigar, he sat in front of his laptop and pecked away, looking like he was writing the great American novel as someone pointed out to me. I loved all his stuff, looking around the room, it seemed everyone really was quite into it. Goem was the Freiband guy and 2 others...all three lined up in front of thier laptops. good work, lots of complicated layers and subtle movements...best was the last track where a circling, cycling, ever growing in intensity and volume, then suddenly vanished. Thanks to the fine people from Zenapolae and Fuzzy Box :) ok then, Linda --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
