From what I remember, it's something to do with the qualities of the vinyl. The colouring process actually affects the stability of vinyl, and the colouring also decreases the vinyl's 'smoothness' so that when it is pressed, it actually has a lower 'resolution' than standard black vinyl. Also (but not related), coloured vinyl is harder to maintain, usually because it's harder to see the grooves, and any surface imperfections, hence my distrust totally of picture discs. Black vinyl is easier to both spot imperfections at presses, and also when browing in shops. I never leave a record shop without checking the vinyl first. If they don't let you do that, then beware... I only have 2 coloured vinyl recordings, both of which were not available in standard black. Nowadays, if I can't get black vinyl, I get the CD. I don't go for gimmicks (IMO) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Goldsworth" <keving173@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2002 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [idm] picture why
