Some packaging definitely works out better than others.
But there's different criteria to judge by -
quality of the vinyl/pressing, quality of the package/sleeves,
and artistic value of the whole thing.
I've got a few artistic packages that are pretty cool -
some EPs on Hands with textured jackets very nice all around.
Cex's Role-Playah EP is very funny packaging, although
it could use another sleeve for protecting the record.
The Aphex "Druqz" packaging was very irratating.
The image on the LP is nice and all, but the shape
of the box was useless. It would have been just
as well to make it a regular, "thicker" LP package with the
same image, because the jackets inside an vinyl
are all great quality.
Overall - i just like to see a package that will
decently protect the vinyl. Cover art is good.
That's pretty much all i'm looking for. Creativity
in packaging is ok, but in the long run i could care less.
