"Ping/Thaw" is a pretty good release, on the Karaoke Kalk label. It's got a really industrial sort of sound about it I think... that sort of post-TG wasteland effect on some of the sounds and atmospheres. Take some of that early 80's mood (think TG, early Coil, Zoviet France) and combine it with some deep electronic percussion and minimal glitchy stuff. I haven't listened to it in a while so I'm going from memory, maybe I'm not giving the best description.... It's a solid effort although I prefer the releases that followed, especially "Trial" which was released as part of the Static series on the Raster label. It seemed to get panned by a lot of magazines/journalists but I thought it was one of the best releases of its sort at the time (and even now)... definitely a departure from the previous stuff and more in the speaker-crackling clicks and cuts sort of sound. Everything is so dark on it, crisp and tons of effects and reverb in various spots. It's a tight tight album. "Silencer" which was released maybe half a year ago on KK as well is a solid one too, a lot more ambient and returning more to earlier Senking a little, but very nice stuff. It's short, but still worth it. On a side note I also really like his stuff as Kandis which is a little lighter in mood, and draws on more disparate influences, combining some of the clicky techno stuff from Force Inc/MP and also some strange vocal stuff, weird affected drum loops, etc. The compilation CD on KK includes most if not all of the Kandis vinyl releases on one CD which is really worth it. How is his other project, Fumble? Anyone who can offer a description... I'm curious. thanks _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
