I agree, to a point. Something like a call for off-list discussion, or perhaps the creation of a "idm-lite" list ;D Coldplay is an indie band that happen to get airplay without having to sell out. While the merits of such a thing, or the quality of their music may be a worthwhile discussion, it doesn't really fit on a list that discusses electronically created music with a relatively complex background, musically speaking. But oh well. The occasional Portishead post or indie-rock post happens and thrives, but they're not about to "turn the IDM-l into something not IDM-l." One of the things I've always liked about this list is that the interests of the people on it are incredibly diverse, and most lists about a specific genre boil down to a band or two that everyone on the list loves, and the discussion focuses on emotion and No True Scotsman fallacies. At least on the IDM-l, most of the arguments actually back up their positions with "well I'm not a fan of music that's technologically advanced simply for the sake of advancement," and it makes sense, instead of "coldplay are so not indie, they're on the radio, they suck." :D But this is just a variation of a shout-out, really, so it's no big deal. It's like asking "I'm into IDM, and I also like metal/folk/classical. Does anyone else here like that, or have any recommendations in either genre or a mix of the two/three/four?" So live 'n learn ;D derek On 31 Jan 2002, =?iso-8859-1?Q?C=E9sar?= Laia doth wrote:
