personally, i like the telefon album quite a bit. i can certainly
understand the gripes with it though. try giving it a listen whilst doing
your best to pay attention only to the melodies. if you extract those
melodies from the context of interesting and highly textural programming,
they are still "nice"... but would probably fall into some sort of
"easy-listening/ adult-contemporary" genre. don't get me wrong, because i
really do like the album, but i can also see the other viewpoints about it.
i've heard people make similar gripes about boards of canada, but i do think
they've got perhaps a slight bit more going on in terms of intricate
programming and odd cultural references. anyway, that's my two cents worth.
i like it. wish the melodic/harmonic parts were a bit more interesting. in
context, however, they flow beautifully as a secondary facet to the textural
work telefon do. i'm a fan.
