Me neither. I'm as much into autechre for being intricate as I am into amon tobin for being cinematic as I am into plaid for being fun and funky. But what they do sounds like they actually spend time and effort into producing it, instead of just using a granular synthesis plugin for the whole track, or generating a melody from the fibonacci sequence. To me, someone who at least sounds like they're putting an effort into doing something, even if the thing isn't very new, sounds better than someone who's just pissin' around. It's like waiting for the obligatory snare rush in, *ahem*, certain music styles. If you know where the snare rush is gonna happen, or hell, if you can even tell that one's coming up, how interesting is that? If you can second guess the artist without ever hearing their music before, how hard did they really try? Of course that changes with each person's experience -- I'm not saying my impressions work for anyone else. But that's generally how I work. derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- fresh like pie --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
