You know, Miguel (kid606) is a smart guy. From my contact with him, is as
much about spreading peace, love and understanding in the world as the next
person. I had a pretty long conversation with him when he was here
about music biz, the internet, yada yada. I hate to break it to you,
the IDM list is fairly far down his list of concerns. If he mentions it
in interviews, well, the IDM list is a target of opportunity -- there are
people and institutions he's way more annoyed by, but politically it
would be a bad thing to slag them in print.
Any smart guy who wants to have a career doing this kind of music knows
about the IDM list, and has to come to some sort of understanding of it.
They know that the subscribers here are the early adopters -- the ones
that start the word of mouth buzz that's essential to moving product.
On the other hand they know that a sizable percentage of the people here
are cranks with no lives, as obsessive and irritating as the worst trekkies
in bad Klingon latex appliances; so they don't take it any more seriously
than they absolutely must.
And people who are actually working at making music don't have time for
the kind of petty crap that goes on here. Those that can, do. Those that
can't, subscribe to IDM.
And yes I'm a producer, and yes I'm on IDM. Make of that what you will...
