I have a web radio show two Fridays a month on StudioX.org called The
DeepEnd.
Seeing as I usually play mp3s I usually opt for the 2nd option. I do,
however,
like to get a mood or a vibe going with my sets and try not to jar the
listener
too much by throwing in totally contrasting songs. I usually don't announce
the songs, but after hearing what you all have said about liking the song
announce-
ments, I think I will work that into my sets from now on.

in defense of the former,
on my show, i do a continuous mix, however, i try to stay as far away from
dj tricks as possible. just smooth decently quick mixes. oh, and i also,
unless something comes up, play a song in its (near)entirety with minimal
overlap between tracks while still maintaining the feel of a club mix.
at the end of each mix (approx 45-50 min) i'll list off the songs i played,
with album info, etc. this is easier to do, however, when you're on a
public radio station that isn't tied down to playing commercials every 5
min.
