intro: ~~~~ our 34th mail out. =================================================== apology: ~~~~~~ to get off this list please write back. due to massive technology hassles our central computer has been down for about 6 months. to recover data we've had to go back to the records for november 2000, so if you've unsubbed since you will need to do it once again. sorry. welcome to all the new people we've picked up along the way at gigs and events over the last period. =================================================== summary of recent raya activity: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ we gave up our three odd year residency at the institute of contemporary arts back in december. since then we have been messing around with all kinds of things erm, visuals over the bays, all the visuals at the amazing hip-hop/techno/freestyle deadbeat weekender in caistor, norfolk. raya have been to krakow in poland, radius in cardiff, helped with another london based triology and the inspiring international womens strike day, crew members have contributed to events in rotterdam, london, greece, spain, nyc and the uk suburbs, including the recent big chill festival in dorset. we've started to develop stronger invlovement with educational and community activities which include dj and mc workshops, multi-media, video blah blah blah. we were lucky enough to be offered a once every two months residency at the new london multi media and performer venue "ocean" (opposite hackney town hall). we opened the night after the general election with an event entitled "never mind the ballots" featuring short films from the political front line combined with tunes from raya dj's. then matt black (ninja/vjamm) came down with ian and crusied the audio visual format with some music and digital media. worked out very nice so on we go. =================================================== next raya: ~~~~~~~ raya present "prophesy" <featuring nitin sawney> sat 4th august 2001 ocean // hackney // // 8pm-1am "raya's latest night of multi-disciplinary entertainment from the digital underground features an exclusive screening of the latest film from www.yeastdirections.org.uk - shot in india, australia, the usa, south africa and the uk, it's a visual representation of nitin sawney's latest album, 'prophesy'. afterwards in an exclusive set nitin and guests will be mixing up djing and live instruments plus the evening starts with the usual mix of raya's new no-budget, no-star, all-cool seditionary short films". entry £6, £4 with flyer / concessions, films start at 8.30pm // check time out for more detail =================================================== future raya: ~~~~~~~~ ssyf and raya present "causeffect" in association with vjamm (camart/ninjatune) and vestax uk saturday 25th august 2001 ludlow assembly rooms // 8pm-1am autopilot vs risidual darkness tom churchill (headspace) simon green, jeff brown and mark williams (raya) causeffect (ssyf) lee-ling (community music/rithmik) dj le matt (in-touch) .........................................----------......................... ............................................................. there are mutli media workshops going on before the gig with tutor references something like.... michael heap (video and digital interfaces) autopilot (digital imaging and music making) simon green (event organising, communications and logistics) mark williams (design, graphics and text) jeff brown (video and photography) tom churchill (dj vinyl and digital music making) lee-ling (voice) matt parford (3d digital environment animation) =================================================== future raya: ~~~~~~~~ sound circuit 8th and 9th september 2001 thruxton race circuit, a303, nr. andover, hants 2 day music extraviganza over two stages, raya have been asked to organise, sort visuals and contribute musically to the dj bit in association with vestax uk. featuring students from raya workshops and experienced dj's from around the uk and different scenes. watch this space. more info: www.testvalley.gov.uk =================================================== enough already: ~~~~~~~~~~~ turning into a rambling email so we'll leave it there. much going on including radio and records etc. check the web site for more details or get in touch on email. =================================================== end of message: ~~~~~~~~~~~ sincere best wishes... * RAYA atmospheric engineering http://raya.org.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
