After a good few listens, most of this album just passed me by. In The
Field With Brian is a nice intro. I thought the album kind of peaked around
this time last year with Monarchs, and nothing else was really grabbing me
for a while. I was ready to give up, but I gave it more attention. I really
like Margin of Error. Waveguiding in particular is doing things for me. So
far, the first half (apart from Monarchs) just bores me and the second half
has some really good stuff.
Some filler on here, but a good handful of tracks worthy of dumping into a
separate and regularly listened to playlist. Who has listened to the bonus
tracks? Good stuff?
Side note 1: I do like a bit of wankery, but it's nice to have some melodic
glue or some nice pads to take the edge off, which some of these tracks do
very nicely.
Side note 2: West Peaks sounds so much like what Floating Points is doing
these days, along with a Korg Volca Beats.
Side note 3: 122112 has a bit from 2:07 to 2:17 that to me sounds exactly
like something else. It's killing me! If any of you lot can figure it out,
I'd be grateful!
