Tonight, I went to the final event for the Good/Bad Art Collective in Denton. You've probably never heard of them - they're kind of an underground gem, even here in town. They've all decided to go and be arty in New York. Lucky you. What's this got to do with anything? Suffice it to say I had one of the strangest evenings I can recall in a long time. I got to the thing late (I was at a Cinco de Mayo party) so I missed the explanation of how GB came to be (of course, it was probably complete bullshit). But I arrived 5 minutes before showtime for "!!!!!!!!" to find that the bands had already started - 8 of them. All playing at the same time in a tent in a Texas downpour. It was insane, to put it mildly. Especially when you consider that George from Little Grizzly likes to self-abuse or involve the crowd... I got mightily hugged a few times, and he started shaking one of the pillars of the tent, burning out one of the lamps. John Freeman of the Dutch Treats didn't even have a mic. He insisted that people place money into a thawing frozen pie. The Banes reuinted, and I got to learn about "The Naked Banes Fan". Inside, a totally unlit tunnel led around a corner, through a closet and into - the office of Good/Bad. I had attended events at GB for a long time and always wondered what the office was really like - there it was. Articles stuck to the walls, and members just standing around talking to each other about nothing. The totally unlit hallway made for interesting conversation as I ran into people I knew, completely by accident. I only went through because someone popped out as I was trying to decide if I should wait to get into line for the bathroom. After the noise outside subsided, I ran into a friend who's really into art and did some chatting. I almost macked on a friend of his, and leaned against the door of the fake GB. I eventually broke one of the bars off the window, completely by accident. Sorta. Then the curtain on the window to the real office opened up - people began pounding on the glass to see Electric Freestyle Fantasy reunite - the door to the office from the inside was opened... and pandemonium began. Thankfully, the GB was providing free earplugs, so i had grabbed some outside and put them back in. Why? Well, because the office was tiny. EFF has 5ish members, and a few people dressed up in disguise doing totally random shit. What followed was almost punk rock, but so much more melodic and enjoyable. I'd never seen EFF before, despite having the opportunity (and that's ANOTHER story) and was really surprised at how much fun I had. Then again, when you're crammed in a room with 30 or 40 people, people are pounding on the glass to come in, and you're standing between a friend and his guitar amp... it's something to see. After 8 years, Good/Bad is leaving poor old Denton back to its boring self. Have fun in New York, kids. http://www.goodbad.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
