came out to rotation not expecting a big crowd, but the rave crew was in
effect. i was waiting for someone to ask "when's the trance come on?"
anyways.. got there about 11...first was this weird group.. like the barn
storm burners or something. (matt? can you help?) pretty screwed up
"live act" didnt really play any music...just acted very oddly.
intermission came. pretty fucking entertaining.. the retard, jimmy,
came on and spoke for a while. he and kent had some words and finally
jimmy did a dance with Kent Williams beatboxing. pretty hilarious...i
didnt realize kent could break it down like that. =)
next came cex. pretty entertaining. the music that he played was quite
nice.. idm/electro/funk. he didn't actually do a live pa, but played it
off of some device. instead he mc'd to the whole set. wasn't really
expecting this...kidn of expecting someidm.wanker behind a laptop. he
got up there and got the crowd going pretty good. did some good
freestyle mc'ing and was overall pretty nice. he should play a
rave. i dont own any of his work, but will prolly pick it up in the
future (spent all my $$ there on a kid606 shirt..so i couldnt dole out
more for music =(
then kid606 came on... havent seen him live before... started out with
sandwiches (detroit grand pubahs)... the rave kiddies started
dancing... wooops. drop some kid606 remix on that and
bam! *noise*sandwiches* poor rave kiddies. they no like
noise. next he played what sounded liek an odd remix of spastik
(plastikman)... but who knows? it went into an all out noise/chaos fest
from there. my ears hurt for a bit and i could see some rave kiddies
cringing in pain motioning for the door.
overall, a nice evening out in iowa city.... its great to have good music
come out in the cornfields. props to matt&recordcollector, kent
williams, and the rotation crew for arranging the gig.
