just my humble opinion...lumping Plaid with Orbital...ouch. That's just not right. And I even dig Orbital. To my ears Plaid is very original. Who else sounds like them? Hearing a track by them, within seconds you can tell it's them. I wish I could say the same thing about armada of Ae type artists out there... Ed and Andy's songwriting ability/musicality blows me away continually. While I make music and think I could mimick Orbital's catchy but simplistic synth lines (of course the success of that remains to be seen, I am NOT saying I am as good as Orbital), the melodic structures, arpeggio type stuff, and choice of synth sounds (which are smart to me because they prove you can use what sound like semi-presets and still tell a great story) inspire me. Plus the whole 'sense of humor' element in there music is much appreciated. Also note I have no formal music training, so perhaps that is why Plaid seems to strike a chord with me moreso than all the skittery beat melancholy melody stuff out there... just my .02 nate On Wed, 11 Apr 2001, Josh Bown wrote:
