i picked up the new colongib & christopher graves cd ("special rumble") yesterday. i almost passed it up for the new current 93 and thighpaulsandra* but am VERY glad i gave the cd enough of a chance to give it a quick listen. i love it!! it is creepy, crawly and tweeky -- much "tighter" than previous material i have heard from these guys (which i liked as well.. but hey, im confused, arn't graves + colongib the same person? is this like a coil vs elph thing?). i am listening to it now for like the third time and cannot recommend it enough. i also picked up the new matmos -- and well, it sucks. no wait, my mistake. it is REALLY, REALLY good. i expect matmos will explode sometime in the near future, with the same recognition and respect as folks like autechre and perhaps even aphex twin. it seems like the indie, noise, and electronic kids are eating their music up.. at least around here. i hope they do get massive too, because their music is way too creative and sick to go unheard. *thighpaulsandra & current 93 comments: eh. what the fuck. i was all excited over the new current 93, which is a mix of all the old current 93 stuff together. i thought it would come out as some nicely done collage thing (cut & paste, like steve stapleton style), but instead it is just everything stacked on top of everything else.. and, well, it just does not sound that good. perhaps i need to give it a better listen outside of a record store setting, but i really was unimpressed. and the brief listen of the thighpaulsandra cd left me unimpressed as well, so i passed on it.. any comments to convince me otherwise are welcome :) oh, and for those of you in socal, noisenoisenoise in costa mesa is OUT OF CONTROL. it is like looking a huge chunk of pj's weekly list, except with everything in front of you and available for listen.. they just added an idm section, which is very over the top and a little odd.. but wow, what a lot of crazy music! lucky kitchen, vvm, schematic, krakfive, warp, suction... happy sunday, chris. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
