SACD is Sony's Super Audio CD format - I think they're the only vendor with
a player at present. It offers a great frequency response, among other
goodies. Can you hear it? Hell yes. Will it take off? Probably not - It's
going head to head with DVD-A.
Both do multi channel audio, but DVD-A has a lot more support in the market.
Compare Sony's measly 12 SACD release to DVD-A's 2 dozen! ;)
I've heard 2 SACD demo's - One was plain old stereo, and very nice. Rumour
has it they use the new frequency range to "lubricate the air" the speakers
shift. Obviously you need a nice set of speakers, but hey, it ain't
something to play your Britney Spears CD on, it's aimed at audiophiles.
Second was 5.1 audio, and that was fantastic, but I think the recording used
helped that out.
Ummm. The new Max Tundra ain't bad, and that Matmos EP (single?) is wicked.
Oh yeah, and that french hip hop 12" on Big Dada is worth checking out. (TTC
is it?) And for those of you who don't know, there's an Autechre remix on
the most recent Kruton slab of wax.
Mmmm, nice.
