I could be totally wrong - but I do believe that she's a Cape Town
grrrl (just like myself) from here in South Africa, the daughter of
Abdullah Ibrahim, famous composer / pianist (in a more jazzy vein).
He himself became famous under the name "Dollar Brand" way
back in the 60's, his hugest hit being "Manenberg" (which you
might well find on compilations featuring SA music). When he
converted to the Muslim faith, he took on the name Abdullah
Ibrahim.
