A few recommendations off the top of my head: V/A- OHM: A fantastic intro to this whole movement. Terry Riley: Everything from the early 60s (all those amazing Organ Of Corti reissues) to Shri Camel and Descending Moonshine Dervishes (early 80s). Bernard Parmegiani: Start with De Natura Sonorum--a real mindblower. Pierre Henry: Le Messe Por La Temps (something like that): Freaky psych rock mixed with very strange musique concrete. Philip Glass: Music In 12 Parts--An unacknowledged precursor to techno. Pauline Oliveros: Electronic Music and Alien Bog/Sonic Soup (great drone-based works from the mid-60s) Folke Rabe- What??: Reissued by Dexter's Cigar a few years ago, this is a seminal minimalist drone piece. Essential for those who think the microscopic-sound subgenre began in the 90s--and for everyone else on this list. Big Swifty- Akroasis and The Canals Of The Atlantean Plain-- Extrapolating on the blueprints laid down by Tony Conrad, Riley and La Monte Young.
