Ok, this is just stupid. I don't give a fuck how many jungle ruffnecks have used a break. My assessment of breaks is based solely on how I can use it, and how versatile it is. The tone of the drums, and the overall feel mean more than "oooh! look how IDM I am, I sampled a break from some an Elvis track". blah blah blah. It's the same thing with 808/909 sounds. Yes, everyone and their mom uses 909 samples, but why and how? 99% of the stuff I hear with 808/909 samples uses them in a really boring way, but there's that special 1% that really makes me turn my head. That, to me, is much more artistic and impressive: to take a sound that many people know and do something totally new and fresh with it. -andrew
