It's hard to say what the future of IDM or any electronic genre will be like. I for one think that the standards of several electronic genres have fallen off. I'm not sure why, but I have heard a lot of mediocre releases from artists that have had good work in the past. I'm not sure what is to blame. Maybe it is a cyclical thing. Or perhaps there really hasn't been any sort catalyst of new ideas thrusted out there. Or maybe people have gotten lazy because the technology has made it so easy to whip out a tune.
