A few recent purchases I've been really happy with: Bleepbloop Moving Violation mix CDR I've been meaning to pick up a jungle mix for a while but whatever I've had the chance to listen to I haven't liked. I know nothing about jungle, but I do know what I like--in a word gritty. Well I was expecting slower breaks from the advertising on this CD, but was pleasantly surprised to get a jungle mix fitting my bill. A great mix at $7.50, get it. Eat Static - Hybrid - PFM remix is looking like a favorite. Soul Center - Thomas Brinkmann I loved the first Soul Center, and I agree with what I've seen said on here, Brinkmann has picked it up another notch on this one. Sure minimal but maybe not quite as, a bit busier and dancier, great samples and I'll second what was said about the audience samples lending a different feel. I've been hammering the first track Can I Ask You, makes me wish I were a dj :) Lowfish - Eliminator I've been wanting to pick up something off Suction after reading so much about the label on here, and I'm more than glad I did! Lowfish fits in for me somewhere right between dance and abstract, melodic and monotonic. Like much of the electronic music I tend to like, it has a certain clean simplicity. I'll definitely be looking for more Suction releases. Funckarma - Parts Like much music in a similar vein--"real" IDM :) abstract and distorted beats--this is not immediately gratifying to me, but I've found myself coming back to it, unlike some other albums which have been pretty highly regarded on here. Unique sounds seem consciously woven together, not just thrown together, into melancholy, grating (in the positive sense :) melodies. The beats at times have that random character that I think usually turns me off to this kind of stuff, but they've got me moving at times too, little surprise effects or sounds crop up here and there. I'm liking this more and more. Back to NY next week, yay John --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
