- two microphones - one (or two) mixing boards (16x4x2 or 16x8x2) - one G3 blue and white (or a powerbook) OR - one PC but only if it's operating under unix / linux (windows not allowed!) [human being optional] the following software: 1.)secret 2.)not telling 3.)search the web 4.)ask a computer 'musician' 5.)don't believe what you read in interviews as for triggering stuff, you can buy all the necessary gear from radio shack. even though i missed their tour, i believe download used a fairly 'interactive' setup. (anyone ever see a skinny puppy show? now that IS a performance) the laptop concerts wouldn't be so, ummmm... 'removed' if the performer took some time to integrate graphics and / or media. there's a ton of programs which will interact with the sound being produced. (not just fractals or cheesey array line screen saver ding dings... much more elaborate realtime visual 'compostions') op1 | op2 - op3 | op4 i believe a bunch of the cologne 'posse' along with atom heart and some others that were mentioned in EQ said their setup mainly consisted of an akai mpc2000, or one of the various 'phrase samplers' that are plentiful on the market. maybe a few casio synths and some effects boxes / pedals. the rest is pure noodling. (noodling not being a 'bad' term) the dream machine would proably be any or most of the gear keith emerson brought on stage. insanity at it's finest! (nothing beats a suspended modular synth... well, christy turlington does.) as for drums, i think metal cans (oil drums or aluminum garbage cans) processed through a computer (or some other signal processing device) would probably work well. (this has been done before...) cevin key used a 'powerglove' thingy to trigger pad sounds when download toured. the head gear thing might be a bit of a strain on the neck after a while. (especially if you're doing staccato or arpeggio 'movements') if you can find one, there's some software that lets you use nintendo's powerglove to procees or trigger events. oh yeah, buy the musik kreis ms 20 CD <plag dich nicht> (a group which is obsessed with the korg ms20), the crank CD <mille plateax> (lowres making some tweaky yet beat structured chaos), and david kristian's latest offering. (which is completely overwhelming given the amount of patching / programming involved) if you don't live in the state of maryland, be thankful. ch. -- " Make More Juice! " ICQ# 15688864
