Kelley: I think (and as a few others have pointed out) you're generalizing here. You say the melodies in "most" d n b recording are lush, but drum n bass, like IDM, techno, and other electronic music types, has a *huge* variety of sound(s). LTJ Bukem et al might focus on the "lush", but hear some drum n bass done by others in the UK and they ain't all following the "lush" Bukem sound. Listen to material on Germany's Position Chrome and that certainly ain't "lush". Hell, Panacea's abrasive textures are the complete opposite of "lush"! Ditto for others who do material in a drum n bass style (at times) that might be known on the list: Hrvatski, Kid 606, and many others. You might be confusing "lush" melodies with the gleam of the production? (Super smooth vs. raw) If you want to hear some super detailed production, listen to Source Direct, for example. The production, like Bukem's, is very concise, crisp, and clean--it shimmers--but Source Direct definitely ain't "lush". plug "drum n bass" into a search engine and you'll see that the "lush" sound is just one of many styles. You seem hyper- focused, Kelley, honing in on a few things and then generalizing that to a greater whole (often mistakenly and to your detriment). You've obviously got passion, but open up to the *variety* instead of narrowing things down to a small point. (Just friendly advice) Andrew Duke Kelley Hackett wrote:
