I have to agree with these sentiments. IDM pleases my
creative and intellectual side immensely, but
sometimes leaves my emotional side feeling slightly
hollow. This was particularly bad about a month and a
half ago. My remedy was to listen to a bit more vocal
and egoistic music, such as Tom Waits or Edith Piaf. I
think that the greatest virtue of most electronic
music is precisely that it minimizes the ego of the
composer. Like classical music, IDM is based almost
purely on sonic appeal. I can't imagine what it would
be like to listen to music where someone is telling me
how they feel all the time. Anyone agree?

The Situationists maintained that ordinary people have all the tools they need for revolution. The only thing missing is a perceptual shift - a tantalizing glimpse of a new way of being - that suddenly brings everything into focus. - Kalle Lasn
