The point I was trying to make was that King Crimson didn't exist in a vacuum apart from the other bands in the proggie world, they shared some of the drawbacks of the genre such as pomposity and over-elaboration. When they rose above the limitations of the genre they made some great music, but lets not place them on a pedestal because a lot of their LP's are quite patchy. Before we go any further, I must quote Pete Sinfield (KC's resident poet): The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams. Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams. When every man is torn apart With nightmares and with dreams, Will no one lay the laurel wreath As silence drowns the screams. Enuff said, surely! Matt. PS. Can I just appeal here for no-one to continue this thread and start talking about Van Der Graaf Generator? ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
