maybe i missed a post about this, but has anyone heard the new speedy j album? just picked up a promo copy in the used bin at other music ($7.99 and you CAN'T beat that) during my trip to NYC. anyway, here's the rundown: speedy J a shocking hobby novamute (anomu74cd) terre zippy borax ferber mudd balk acid drill caligula vopak actor nine sabina seat amoco cadiz manhasset i've only given a few listens, so i can't really give detailed song descriptions yet. i'll just say it's a definite progression (and a logical one at that) from public energy #1. heavy processing (sounds like a lot of metasynth) but not over the top so you're sick of hearing the same old DSP algorithms being recycled in recent IDM releases. it's sweet. very sweet. plenty of BASS. if you see it, grab it. i promise you'll like it. also, the lovely lovely designers at MEGO (tina frank and company...) have released an album called 'chicks on speed.' while i was browsing the store i was fortunate enough to hear a good deal of the album (unfortunately i didn't have the money to buy everything i wanted so i'll have to wait a week or so to pick this up) and it's excellent. three graphic designer 'chicks' singing about whatever is on their mind over some hyper tweaked hip hop beats and MEGO you know sound quality. three girls + electronic music + sense of humor = another fine MEGO related release. and yes, they can actually sing when they try. the worse feeling, is having a pile of CDs which include DAT politics, dettinger, senking, profan, hecker, v delay, speedy j, speedranch^janskynoise, and bruce haack in your hands and only having 30 bucks to spend. i went with speedy j, speedranch^janskynoise, and bruce haack because i found them in the used bin (i was very happy) and they're all quality releases. the bruce haack album 'hush little robot' is quite disturbing. if you don't know about this album, i'll care to explain in another email. must pick up the dettinger album soon. and the profan stuff... over processed music is a lot like over processed food. you reach the point where you just wish people would STOP putting shit in it just for the sake of it. thank you, christian.adam.hresko. -- " kid for a day.
