I almost cmpletely agree with inphlux, just a thing or 2 to add. DJ I-Sound,
a clerk at Kim's, opened for Mike P. He was good, though the crowd wasn't
into it. Mostly illbient style--some dub, noise, hiphop, and other stuff,
distorted via scratching, etc. to make uneasy listening. I dug it, but I'm a
Soundlab fan, so whatever, sue me.
Around 3:50 Mike P came on. I only recognized the Mr. Angry version he
played (I don't own much u-ziq), and yes, he did rip shit up. He played
drill n'bass loud and assaultively like AFX did 3 nights ago, but he wasn't
in a piss-taking/groove-killing mood. If you had felt really hyper, dancing
definitely would have been possible, and I started head nodding happened
without a conscious decision to. Mike p.'s silly melodies started to grate
on me after a while, but near the end he pretty much drtopped them out and
made his stuff rougher. Very good, very loud (that was me right in front of
the speakers in the cargo shorts and b+w collared shirt).
