Damn, when did you hear me dis Cajmere or Motorbass? =) Ok, not as jackin' as the GV stuff, or as quirky/funky/original as Motorbass, but I daresay it's deeper - on a late morning vibe. All my opinion, of course. From what I've heard, Tom & Mark ape styles very well - they tend to understand the essence of a genre pretty easily. What they do doesn't tend to push that genre forward, at least in the non ambient/IDM stuff they've done, but what they do is usually an excellent example of that genre - look at the NY NY Secret Ingredients record - straight up wild pitch style. No better than Pierre, but not bad. So in that sense, maybe it is a bit formulaic, but I don't think it's crap. And it's generally better than most who try and genre-hop - maybe I'm giving them a little extra credit for breadth. Why not talk about house music, at least we're discussing music, which hasn't seemed to be the focus of the list lately...I think everyone on the list could use to at least listen to the I:Cube album.
