Been really busy with life, work and the label. But have still managed to
buy music. Here are some quick reviews of what is on rotation around
here:
Stalaktiten ooh mirjam : angestmaskin (phthalo. 16) CD
(I think that is the title)
I tried listenining to this at the store and for the life of me could not
figure out what was going on. So I bought it, fully realizing it was
something that had to be listened to, not browsed through (plus the store
has a nifty 10 day return policy). Imaging sinister mood music that is
created by digital glitches and synthesis and you will know what the first
part of this CD sounds like. More noise than music perhaps; but somewhere
along the way it gains cohesion and becomes music again. Beats form and
what appears to be atmospherics come and go. this is not to say it isn't
still difficult. The sounds and structures are odd. Experimental music
with a very slight nod to snd and the mego camp (and amusik if amusic went
abstract). Really hard to describe (especially the electro and hip hop
influenced tracks). But if your looking for something different then get
this. I like it. Great interesting work to get lost in.
silk saw vs jardind usure - electric musical chairs (sub rosa) CD
I am familliar with silk saw's work on the ant-zen label. This is not
that work. Very sparse, ambient, disturbing noisy at times. Low bass, odd
noises and the occasional assault of percussion that shounds more like
washing machines than anything else. Basically this is an ambient CD.
If you like odd then check this out as well.
Persona - uptight (simulated) CD
now this is fun. well crafted beats, samples and breaks. Chaotic use of
drum loops (specificly jungle type loops). But there is a cohesion. It
never sounds like it is going to fall apart. Everything is in place and
belongs there. Very original and like I said fun. And it is well
recorded to boot. Best described as wack drum and bass with a pop appeal.
A must have if your into this type of music.
