quoted 1 line So Lazlo's a copyright lawyer?> So Lazlo's a copyright lawyer?
No, but I've at least read the law in question, which you don't seem to have done: No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the manufacture, importation, or distribution of a digital audio recording device, a digital audio recording medium, an analog recording device, or an analog recording medium, or based on the noncommercial use by a consumer of such a device or medium for making digital musical recordings or analog musical recordings. 17 U.S.C. 1008 In other words: under US copyright law (Title 17) copyright holders do not have the right to sue people for copying their musical recordings unless those recordings are then put to some commercial use. That very clearly covers taping off copies of records for friends and so forth. If you want to try to hide behind it when you give away those 10,000 copies of "Thriller" in front of Tower Records, go right ahead . . . -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists
