DISSAPOINTING SELL-OUT OF THE WEEK: Amazing British DJ's UNDERWORLD are
set to collaborate with not-so-amazing "look at us were are techno now!"
rockers U2 later on this year. Both groups have met to discuss working
together on new tracks. Meanwhile, Belfast DJ DAVID HOLMES has been
approached to support U2 on part of their PopMart nworld tour. Will the
madness never end??
REM singer MICHAEL STIPE is recording a track with British dance stars
UNDERWORLD for the new BATMAN AND ROBIN soundtrack. A friend of the BORN
SLIPPY band says they are hoping Stipe's voice will gel with that of
Underworld vocalist KARL HYDE. The film - starring GEORGE CLOONEY and
UMA THURMAN - and soundtrack are due out later this year. We had also
reported that the techno savants would be collaborating with U2 in the
near future, but we have since learned that perhaps we were hasty in our
reporting of this. A source close to Underworld has said, "They are
being very cagey about it until the track's mixed and approved by
everyone involved." Probably a wise move for both band's reputations.
THE PRODIGY have been hit by festival fever - and it's dragging them
across the world. The FIRESTARTER group are already signed up for a
series of massive outdoor shows in Britain this summer - including
Glastonbury and the V97 events, and with more expected to follow. Now
LIAM HOWLETT and co. are off to America to appear on the seventh annual
LOLLAPALOOZA tour, alongside fellow British dance star TRICKY and SNOOP
DOGGY DOGG, BLUR, JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, TOOL and KORN. The group
can't even complete the whole series of shows because of other festival
commitments - but organizers are so keen to sign the band up, they're
prepared to let them leave half way through. The Prodigy spokesperson
CHRIS SHARP says, "The band have got to the stage where they can only do
something if the time is right, and they just can't stay out on the road
in America for almost three months. They'll be jetting everywhere this
summer, and trying to fit in as much as they can in the time." The
Prodigy are also expected to appear on the American CHAOTICA tour,
appearing alongside Fellow British acts THE ORB and the CHEMICAL
BROTHERS. Can't wait for that!!
SPEAKING OF TRICKY? The British dance star has just become a movie star
- he's in the new BRUCE WILLIS film THE FIFTH ELEMENT. The hip hop
maestro plays GARY OLDMAN's sidekick in the futuristic thriller which
opens in England in June. He became involved in the production after
meeting Willis when the actor played a gig at THE FORUM, London last
year. He's also an old friend of Oldman. The film is the most expensive
ever made in Britain, costing more than $100 million.
