If I'm mistaken, I believe that the 303 was intended to be an efficient
way of acheiving bassline accompanyment for stage performances and good
ole' rock/pop. MIDI and whatnot. Filters (aka-effects) and sweeps were
initially intended to be "used" to provide color to the accompanyment,
not "abused" to provide a unique sound.
