Lighter fluid is the industry standard. Its also good for getting those
Music & Video Exchange price tickets off without tearing the record
cover.
According to an acquaintance of mine, one of those pens with 5
different colours is also an important accessory when visiting MVE, as
he marks down the price on those records he selects until it reaches
one that he can afford. (For those who don't know these shops, they
sale 2nd hand vinyl at various locations within London and have a
pricing system in which prices are reduced on unsold stock every 2
weeks. The staff use a different colour pen each time).
