i hear a lot of talk about habituation when listening to new autechre; not
necessarily a good thing! listen to anything for long enough and you'll
begin to hear things that you didn't notice at first, or that aren't even
there perhaps. i am always wary when someone tells me that, if i don't
like something it is just because i don't understand it, and ought to listen
again and again and again until i do understand it, or am at least used to
it, habituated.
of course, who can say for sure if the ae guys really do have a coherent
message "beneath the surface" of ep7? i feel like i can understand what
they are doing and saying but it just doesn't work in the same way that it
did for me with Tri Repetae and Garbage EP stuff, parts of Chiastic +
Chiclisuite .. but that's just what I like. it's okay to not like EP7,
right? it
doesn't mean that i don't _understand_ EP7; i just don't like it.
if you don't like it, don't feel like you have to listen and listen until
you do; listen
to something else that you actually do like, and you'll be happier.

would people give this record so many chances, spend so much time getting
used to it, if it weren't ae? probably not..
all that said, im listening to Maphive 6.1 right now and i like it a lot. =)
