Many of the Futurist movement's musical compositions
(e.g. Filippo Tomaso Marinetti) in the 1910's
were also based on creating noise with various
instruments, often specifically created for those
purposes, and also the Soviet-Russian avantgarde
composers (pre-Stalin) used in their performances
for example cannons organized by the pitch they
were creating :)
